letters to the editor

Why any citizen of Kane County would not vote for Chris Lauzen in the upcoming primary election for Kane County Board Chairman is beyond me.
As our state senator since his election in 1992, he has served the citizens of Illinois with energy, integrity, and a special devotion to the issues that matter most to both families and businesses.
While serving as senator, Chris sponsored and passed into state law the largest employment tax decrease in the past 19 years, keeping over $250 million of excess unemployment insurance premiums in the Illinois economy.
He was the lead sponsor of SJR13 to provide permanent property tax relief for residential property owners by putting a freeze on property tax assessments based on a home’s original purchase price, and was a lead co-sponsor on original property tax assessment freeze for homeowners over 65 years old with an income of less than $35,000. Chris founded the âœIllinois Porkbusters,❠which seeks to cut $5 million in waste each year from the state budget, and he helped to secure more than $48 million in school construction grants.
In regard to issues of morality and ethics, he helped to author âœTruth in Budgeting,❠which required the state to eliminate a second set of books so that Illinois taxpayers can see the same numbers as New York bankers do. Chris was the lead sponsor of the law that requires all public schools to use devices that filter out pornographic material coming through the Internet into our taxpayer-funded public school computers, and he was also a lead sponsor of banning the barbaric practice of partial birth abortion.
And Chris Lauzen was the only Illinois State Senator to speak against and vote âœno❠on forcing taxpayers (who already sacrifice to pay the ever increasing costs of a college education for their own children) to provide via their tax dollars a two-thirds tuition discount to illegal immigrants at public universities.
Chris has also worked with the attorney general to pass into law a requirement that prisoners pay for time spent in jail, thereby relieving some of the burden on taxpayers.
Chris Lauzen’s accomplishments as our state senator reveal a man whose passion for the concerns of hardworking taxpayers will continue to drive his energies and be the focus of his formidable skills as an ethical and fiscally responsible leader.
As our new Kane County Board chairman, he will continue to cut waste, focus on the needs of families and small businesses, and otherwise put principles ahead of politics.

Supports Kevin Burnsfor Kane chairman
Republican voters will be faced with a decision in the primary election to select a new County Board Chairman Candidate. The choices are Mayor Kevin Burns and State Senator Chris Lauzen.
The current County Board Chairman, Karen McConnaughay, has decided to run for the new 33rd State Senate seat. This is a loss for Kane County but good for the people of Illinois. McConnaughay has demonstrated strong leadership with conservative fiscal responsibility that has placed the county in excellent financial position.
Mayor Burns has decided to demonstrate his track record of bi-partisan support and the skills to run a city with a multi-million dollar budget. Burns understands the necessity of smaller government and believes in the elimination of unnecessary regulations. Under Burns’ leadership Geneva has reduced it’s spending significantly.
We don’t need divisive unproven rhetoric from any candidate, we do need well-reasoned thoughtful actions from someone who knows the issues at home in Kane County. I believe Kevin Burns has the experience, commitment and integrity to keep us on the road of success for the future of Kane County.

Unhappy with decisionon same sex marriage
I am appalled by the federal appeals court decision to usurp the power and will of the people by striking down Proposition 8 which defines âœmarriage❠as the union of one man and one woman.
The people of California spoke clearly at the ballot box that they do not want the institution of marriage tampered with.
The ruling makes me feel ashamed to live in a land where justice is determined by handful of activist judges.
We need a president who will work to ensure that our judges are not guided by power but by the will of the people as stated in the American Constitution.
